High Grade Turquoise Cabochons are Rare!
Turquoise was one of the first gemstones found by man over 7,500 years ago in Egypt. It has been coveted by healers, royalty and individuals for thousands of years now, however, authentic, natural high grade Turquoise cabochons as well as Turquoise have become very rare! Less than 1% of the Turquoise that comes out of any Turquoise Mine has high enough quality to be cut into Turquoise Cabochons that are considered High Grade and there are very few Turquoise Mines left in the U.S. that are producing Turquoise due to government restrictions as well as several problems that have come to be in the past 25 years.
We had a mass import of Cheap Turquoise, as well as fake Turquoise come into the marketplace from China beginning in 1985. This put most every Turquoise Miner out of business as they could not compete with cheap Chinese imports. As a result, out of over 180 producing Turquoise Mines pre 1985, there are only 2 producing today - the Kingman Turquoise Mine and the Royston Turquoise Mine.
There is a demand for natural, authentic High Grade Turquoise Cabochons and Turquoise like never before and we are having a very hard time filling the demand. For this reason, high quality natural Turquoise and Turquoise Cabochons have become very rare and valuable. The outlook is that we will re-develop the closed mines and begin producing in a matter of time, however, it has become very expensive to mine and as said above less that 1% of the Turquoise from each mine is high grade. The value of High Grade Turquoise Cabochons are going to continue to escalate!
